  Community Resources
Support Services to Seniors
Program began in February, 1987 at the request of the Steinbach
Area Social Planning and Advisory Committee to fill gaps in services
and programs for seniors in Steinbach, Landmark, and the R.M.
of Hanover.
Our goal is to assist seniors to maintain their independent living status in the community as long as possible. Services to Seniors are not care services. They are services directed towards tasks we take for granted.
These programs are available to anyone 55 years or older living
in Steinbach, Landmark, and the R.M. of Hanover.
Mobility Equipment
Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes are available for a
maximum of three months. Equipment must be authorized by a health
professional (doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist
or chiropractor). Equipment may only be loaned to a client living
in a private residence. Equipment may not be loaned to a resident
of an institution.
Transportation
Volunteers provide personal transportation for seniors to and
from medical appointments, etc. locally and to Winnipeg. The seniors
are required to pay parking costs and a reasonable user fee.
Friendly
Visitor Program
Volunteers donate one or two hours per week for regular visits
to seniors These visits may include activities such as playing
cards or board games, going for walks, participating in hobbies
or simply chatting.
Meals
on Wheels
Hot, nutritious noon meals are delivered to your home Monday through
Friday except holidays in Steinbach, and Grunthal. Volunteers
deliver the meals.
Telechek Program
The Telecheck Program involves matching a senior with a volunteer.
The volunteer will contact the senior at a pre-arranged time every
day to say "Hello" and to make sure that everything is okay.

living in their own homes find difficult to do. Fee-for-service
workers are available to assist with these chores.
Congregate
Meal Programs
Hot nutritious full course noon meals are offered to all
seniors. The meals are available Monday through to Friday except
holidays in Steinbach, and Gruntal. Volunteers help the meal coordinator
with food preparation serving and clean up.
E.R.I.K.
An emergency response information kit (E.R.I.K.) provides the
necessary information for emergency personnel to respond quickly
to your situation.
Personal
Response Service (Lifeline)
Lifeline

It provides peace of mind enabling seniors to continue living
independently in their own home. It's easy to use. Help is always
just a button push away. It also minimizes complications by making
sure help arrives quickly. It is affordable with no purchase required
